Family Dog

Our dog was part of our family.

Saying goodbye to our Dog Gizmo 6/20/2025.

Gizzie!

I never thought that having a family dog would give us so many blessings and memories. Today as I
drove to the vet with Gizmo on my lap our little Yorkie to have him put to sleep. All I could think about
was 4 ½ years ago driving home with Giz on my lap to surprise Jenette with a little Yorkie puppy!

I hope our family gave Giz as much love and a great life as he did for us.

Jenette had a Yorkie when I met her (Scooter), and Scooter was with us until he became old. Scooter
was over 15 when we had to put him down. Scooter was such a good dog we never thought we could
have another dog that was as good as Scooter was.

Meet Gizmo! Giz as a puppy was a little wild at first and peed a bit but after the first several months, he
became a perfect family dog. We left him out when we were not home. He never ate anything or went
into the pantry or got into stuff he should not be in. We never put him in a crate. He had a crate in my
office, and he would open the door and go in on his own and come out whenever he wanted to on his
own. We never latched it. I always thought that was neat his own little escape when he needed it. He
could roam the house at night often jumping up on the couch where someone was sleeping. He would
play with the boys and cuddle with them on the couch. There were so many great characteristics of Giz.

It was hard to say goodbye because he was so young, and it happened out of nowhere. We do not know
what happened or why. All we know is his kidney’s failed. He was not eating and started throwing up a
lot. We had him stay at the vets for two nights trying to see if we could get him better. After the vet we
were able to bring him home for a week until today 6/20/2025 and spend some time with him. As we
spent time with him, I secretly hoped he would magically be healed and start running around playing
again. It just was not meant to be.

Everyone in the house has a different way of dealing with the loss of Giz. He became a part of our family.
He sure was loved. I will miss hearing Jenette walk in and say GIZZIE!!! I will miss the mornings he would
come into the room by me to get a quick good morning scratch them I would take him outside. He
always liked to find some sun to lay in around the house as it shined through the windows. Most of all
we will all just miss having him as part of our family.

It is funny how many life lessons having a dog like Gizmo can teach us. As time goes on, we will cherish
our memories with Gizmo! For such a small dog he sure left a huge paw print on our hearts. We were
lucky to have him in our lives.

Families who have a pet and have gone through the process of putting them down understand how hard
the process can be. It is a brutal experience sitting at the vet and holding your dog while this all happens.
It is a very hard thing to do and watch and something that sticks with you. To all the pet owners who
have such special memories of their pet cherish those memories. To all of you who still have your loving
pet take time to make as many memories as you can with them.

I hope one day we are able to have another Yorkie like Gizmo around!!
